Who We Are

Emerge Massachusetts Women in Office

Leominster City Councilor

Sue joined the Emerge class when she narrowly lost her race for State Representative. Emerge gave her to tools to start her next campaign stronger than ever and run it smarter. In November 2009, she topped the ticket for Leominster City Council, beating out every incumbent.

Medford School Committee

Sharon made the decision to run, after years as an activist, after her first Emerge weekend. Her Emerge training gave her the confidence she needed to take on the establishment School Committee in her town and the network of support she formed kept her going through a tough campaign. In November 2009, she won a seat on the Medford School Committee beating three incumbents.

Writer, Activist, Social Media Consultant

Adaora Asala (Roslindale) is a writer, LGBT and Women's Rights activist, and nonprofit social media consultant. She is the founding Director of Queer Women of Color and Friends (QWOC+ Boston), a nationally recognized grassroots organization serving the needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and/or queer people of color and allies in New England.

Senior Policy Analyst, Community Catalyst

Christine Barber (Somerville) is a current candidate for Ward 4 Alderman in Somerville. Christine has experience working on public policy and political campaigns for a number of years. She is currently Senior Policy Analyst at Community Catalyst, a national health care advocacy organization, where she works on health policy at state and national levels, working closely with consumer advocacy groups across the country to expand access to quality affordable health care.
